Denison University's Vail Series is joining the Jazz Arts Group, PNC Arts Alive, and an anonymous donor to present a co-sponsored livestream event, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. A 9’ Steinway Concert Grand Piano is being provided for the event by Hartzler Pianos.
The concert will feature music by jazz greats John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Neal Hefti, Lee Morgan, Sonny Rollins, Horace Silver and others. A pre-concert recorded interview will also be offered during which NEA Jazz Master and multiple Grammy Award-winning trumpeter/composer Wynton Marsalis speaks with Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center Principal and Director, Milton Ruffin, and students from the school. The taped pre-show interview gets underway at 7 p.m. with the live-streamed concert starting at 8 p.m.
“Denison is thrilled to partner with the Jazz Arts Group and PNC Arts Alive to present the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis to the Central Ohio community,” said Michael Morris, Director of the Vail Series at Denison University. “The opportunity for our students to view the concert and take part in a discussion with members of the ensemble is priceless. Exposure to working artists provides Denison students insights and networks in the arts community that enhance their own development as artists.”
“Projects such as these prove that both jazz and the spirit of collaboration are alive and well in Columbus even during uncertain times,” said JAG CEO, Press Southworth III. “We’re extremely pleased to work with partners who help us reach into the community to spread the message of jazz through concerts and educational activities. And with our new online performance platform – JAG TV – we’re bringing the in-concert experience right into people’s homes.”
