The Global Studies Seminar welcomes JoEllen Pederson from Longwood University, Denison graduate Alana Murray '16 and Denison professor K. Russell Shekha to speak about understanding citizenship in the world society. Their talk addresses how definitions of citizenship affect commitment to, endorsement, and restriction of immigrants' and minority group members' economic, social, and cultural rights. While this study suggests national identities continue to predict human rights attitudes, it reveals that individuals who express an international identity demonstrate greater respect for rights of non-traditional citizens. Denison University's Global Studies Seminars are interdisciplinary intellectual forums to discuss and debate academic and policy issues of global importance.
