Denison: The Future of Human/Robot Interactions

The Gordon Lecture Series welcomes Keith Miller for a lecture, ?The Future of Human/Robot Interactions? at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Denison University?s Burton D. As machines gain sophistication, we face societal challenges. We have to start asking important questions now so we will be ready for machines of the future. Examples of those questions are: Can there ever be a machine so advanced that we will consider it a (non-human) person? Should we invest in making robots imitate humans? Should we outlaw the practice? Cyborgs are humans with artificial parts. Is there some point at which a cyborg has so many artificial parts that it ceases being a person? Miller taught computer science at The College of William and Mary and the University of Illinois at Springfield until his retirement in 2013. During that time, he also served as a consultant for several software companies and an expert witness on issues of intellectual property and software quality. He is now a member of the College of Education at the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
