The Ronneberg Lecture Series welcomes University of Missouri professor Bruce Bartholow presenting the "Effects of Alcohol on Racial Bias." Expression of racial bias continues to plague American society. Several high-profile instances of bias in recent years have involved alcohol intoxication. The research summarized in this talk investigates the acute effects of alcohol on expressions of racial bias, focusing on how the drug affects brain responses linked to motivation and cognitive control. A professor of psychology at the University of Missouri and director of the Social Cognitive and Addiction Neuroscience Lab, Bartholow has published more than 90 peer-reviewed science articles and book chapters, and has earned funding as the Primary Investigator (PI) or Co-investigator on multiple grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism). More information about Bartholow's research can be found at http://scanlab.missouri.edu/.
