The Titus-Hepp Lecture Series welcomes the Phi Beta Kappa Society Visiting Scholar Program Carl F. Cranor Visiting Scholar Bonnie Honig, Nancy Duke Lewis Professor in Political Science and Modern Culture in Media, Brown University presenting “How to do things with Inclination: Antigones, with Cavarero.” Beginning with Adriana Cavarero’s newest book, “Inclinations,” this lecture features new readings of the Antigone and Sophocles’ Oedipus plays — which provides the better lens through which to understand their existential and political powers? Agamben’s concept of inoperativity? Or Cavarero’s concept of inclination? Adriana affiliates the ethical posture of inclination with “maternity” – this lecture argues for sorority as a better democratic and agonistic model for a politics of refusal.
