Granville area voters can get to know the candidates for Village Council, Granville Township Trustees Board and the Board of Education in a candidate forum Thursday, Oct. 8.
The event, co-sponsored by the Granville Area Chamber of Commerce and The Granville Sentinel, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center of Granville High School.
Candidates will field questions formulated by the Chamber and the Sentinel. The forum will not be a debate, but rather a chance for candidates to weigh in on current affairs in the community affecting the position they are seeking.
According to the Licking County Board of Elections, three Village Council incumbents — Jeremy Johnson, Rob Montgomery and Jackie O'Keefe — are seeking reelection and four others — Dan Finkelman, Steven Mershon, Bob Ramsay and Dan Rogers — are also running.
Two Granville Township trustee terms are up for election. Seeking the four-year term are two non-incumbents — Andrew King and Matt McGowan in addition to former trustee Dan VanNess, while Kevin Bennett and Ronda Saunders are seeking election to the remaining two years of an unexpired term. Additionally, Jerry Miller, Granville Township Fiscal Officer, is running unopposed for re-election to a four year term.
The Granville Board of Education has three candidates running for three positions. Incumbents Amy Deeds and Russ Ginise are seeking reelection while newcomer Andrew Kohn is also running.
The forum will begin with brief presentations by the school board candidates since there is no competition for the three seats. Similarly, the current Township Fiscal Officer (running unopposed) will be afforded the opportunity to make a brief presentation.
The township trustee candidates will follow, with the forum concluding with the Village Council candidates.
Those attending will have a chance to meet and talk to the candidates in a reception in the GHS Commons following the forum.
The Chamber’s interest in co-sponsoring this Forum is to promote awareness of current and future issues facing our community and to provide the candidates for these key leadership positions an opportunity to share their views and perspectives. In so doing the Chamber seeks to support responsible business development that preserves our heritage and sustains the quality of life in our community.
